Job description

The post holder will be working with a team of Consultants, Specialist Trainees, and Specialty Doctors. In addition, the post holder will have agreed experience in specialist in-patient reviews and procedures, audit, and research. The precise role within each team and the proportion of clinical time spent between the two components would depend on the previous experience and qualifications of the candidate and the specialty chosen.


The post holder will work in Emergency Services, being an integral member of the team. This will include out-patient clinics and procedure lists and can include training/experience in all aspects of Emergency services as agreed between the post holder and the department.

General Requirements

  1. To comply with all GMC regulations such as laid out in “Good Medical Practice.”
  2. To observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures, particularly in relation to managing staff, and to follow the Trust’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions.
  3. To take responsibility for your own Health & Safety complying with any safe working arrangements, policies, and procedures that are in place.
  4. To comply with all Trust requirements of appraisal, assessment, and of the proposed medical training programme as stipulated by the programme leads.
  5. To complete Trust general and local induction.
  6. To work appropriately and effectively within your clinical team within the limits of your competency under clinical and educational supervision.
  7. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, and commensurate with your grade, to play a full part in the supervision and support of other members of your team including more junior medical staff.
  8. In conjunction with colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department and to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.
  9. In conjunction with colleagues, to play a full part in the rota for the department and to provide cover for colleagues in respect of periods of leave and, under agreed circumstances, to be available to provide emergency cover.
  10. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
