An opportunity has arisen for a 12-month fixed-term post in Clinical Virology at UCLH.
The post involves working at Senior Clinical Fellow (ST3+) level within the Department of Clinical Virology under supervision of Virology consultants. The department provides liaison to the diagnostic virology laboratory and clinical advice to UCLH NHS Foundation Trust hospitals. It collaborates with Infection Prevention and Control, microbiology, and Infectious Diseases to deliver comprehensive Infection Services.
This role is ideal for someone seeking further experience in Clinical Virology, aiming for specialty training in Infection, or a senior virologist interested in advanced diagnostics.
The clinical fellow will act as a virology 'specialty registrar', participating in clinical liaison, laboratory work, and infection control under consultant supervision. Responsibilities include signing out laboratory reports, handling clinician inquiries, participating in ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings, and attending a weekly viral hepatitis clinic.
Specifically, this role involves working alongside microbiology/virology consultants and lab staff to implement and evaluate mNGS as a diagnostic tool. The post holder will serve as a key contact for this service evaluation.
They will liaise with clinical colleagues on diagnosis, management, and infection prevention. Experience in all virology lab sections will be provided where appropriate.
The successful candidate will join the on-call microbiology specialty registrar rota, providing clinical advice on a scheduled basis, with support from consultant microbiologists and virologists.
