Job description

Clinical Fellow in Adult Congenital Heart Disease

We are inviting applications to fill a Clinical Fellow vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the Department of Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD).

This post will commence on 6th August 2025 and will be for 1 year.

This post is suitable for candidates who have completed IMT2 (or equivalent).

Essential qualifications: MBBS or equivalent.

Essential experience: Core Training in General Medicine or equivalent. The post would suit a candidate either with some Cardiology experience who wishes to gain specific experience in ACHD, or a candidate with little or no experience in Cardiology who is looking to pursue Cardiology as a career. Many previous fellows have successfully moved from this post to a formal Cardiology training scheme. This post carries no on-call commitment.

Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice by the intended start date.

The ACHD team works closely with the paediatric cardiology team and adult acquired cardiologists, with links to obstetrics and fetal-maternal medicine departments.

This post is suitable for candidates who have completed IMT2. There is no on-call responsibility.

Person Specification
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
  • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current license to practice from the GMC at the intended start date. Please include your GMC number and renewal date.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competencies) by the intended start date.
  • Demonstrable skills in the English language and passed relevant testing if required.
  • 36 months experience after full GMC registration or equivalent.
  • Evidence of achievement of ST3 competencies in medicine or Surgery (as defined by the curricula relating to Core Medical training or Core Surgical Training).
Clinical Experience and Career Progression
  • Evidence of achievement of CT/ST1 & 2 competencies in medicine (as defined by the curricula relating to Core Medical training), or equivalent.
  • Experience in Cardiology or an interest in pursuing Cardiology as a career.
Additional Requirements
  • Evidence of attendance at organized teaching and training programmes.
  • Evidence of self-reflective practice.
Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills
  • Understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues.
  • Understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and clinical quality improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of evidence-informed practice.
  • Ability to provide complete employment history details.
  • Relevant academic and research achievements, e.g., degrees, prizes, awards, publications, presentations, or other recognitions.
  • Involvement in audit, quality improvement, or research projects focusing on patient safety and clinical improvement.
  • Interest in and experience of teaching.
  • Instructor status (or recommendation for instructor status) in an advanced life support course (ALS, ATLS, EPLS, APLS) or equivalent.
Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Completed IMT2 or equivalent.
