Job description

Job summary

Available for August start.

To ensure optimal training exposure, we typically appoint fellows with experience in HPB and General Surgery. This position is suitable for individuals currently working as Junior or Senior Registrars, particularly at ST3/ST4 level, or those seeking a training number in general surgery.

A commitment to a clinical research project is a prerequisite for this role.

The hepatobiliary and colorectal units have developed expertise in managing complex liver surgeries and colorectal cancer. Patients are referred from across the UK and internationally for assessment and treatment.

Main duties of the job
  1. Provide day-to-day inpatient care under the supervision of a consultant during ward rounds.
  2. Perform or assist in major resections appropriate to experience and case complexity.
  3. Participate in the on-call rota in General Surgery (1:12).
  4. Learn laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, and endoscopy.
  5. Contribute to teaching Medical Students and junior doctors.
  6. Participate in ongoing research programs.
  7. Handle administrative responsibilities.
  8. Attend weekly meetings, morbidity and mortality reviews, journal clubs, and multidisciplinary team meetings. Participation in tutorials and postgraduate education is encouraged.
