OCULOPLASTIC FELLOWSHIP

The Oculoplastic fellowship is available from the 1st March 2026 at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

The appointments are on a whole-time basis but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.

This post is suitable for doctors who have completed their training but seek experience in oculoplastic surgery prior to obtaining a consultant appointment. It is not a post that is approved for training by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Candidates are welcome to visit the department and are invited to contact consultant Mr Jonathan Norris (01865 223970) at the West Wing, Oxford Eye Hospital, John Radcliffe Hospital.

Any person who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis, in consultation with consultant supervisors. Suitably qualified job-share candidates will be considered.

Clinical

The postholder’s duties will be primarily atthe John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxfordbut their presence may from time to time be required in other parts of the Trust, such as the Horton Hospital in Banbury.



Teaching/Research/Audit

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a teaching hospital Trust, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity. The Oxford Eye Hospital is an internationally recognized centre of excellence in research, particularly in neonatal vitreoretinal surgery, gene therapy, electronic retinal implants and imaging. Candidates would be expected to engage in some research activity while in post. Additional funding to attend conferences will be provided if Oxford-based research is being presented, for instance, at Euretina or ARVO.

Weekly Timetable

The timetable below is flexible and the candidate should expect that this will evolve with the needs of the service. A formal job plan will be agreed with the appointee and their supervising Consultant (s) on behalf of the Clinical Director / Medical Director.



Facilities for Study and Training

Good library facilities are available at the John Radcliffe and at other libraries in central Oxford hospitals.



Teaching, Audit, Research

Active participation in audit, clinical trials and research is an essential requirement of NHS clinical

governance unit and would be expected.



On-call commitment

There is a formal on call commitment



IMPORTANT GENERAL NOTE

The post-holder must take reasonable care of his/her own health and safety and any other personnel who may be affected by his/her omission. Trust policies and regulations must be followed at all times.



Annual and study leave arrangements must be co-coordinated within the SDU to ensure there is an acceptable level of cover.
