Job description
Overview

A vacancy at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a Senior Clinical Fellow. The post is to work between the NHS Children and Young People’s Gender Service (CYPGS, London) based at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and paediatric safeguarding teams at University College London Hospital (UCLH). It is available as 1 FTE (less than full time equivalent available) for one year, with start intended 2 March 2026. Applications may be possible for residents in non-training posts with an earlier start date; trainees should apply via the OOPE system and be aware of the deadline process. Previous experience in safeguarding, adolescent health and gender is highly desirable but not essential.

The post holder will be expected to support both GOSH and UCLH teams with the aim of gaining experience in complex safeguarding. The role includes clinical care and input to the NHS Children and Young People’s Gender Service (London) clinics, providing a paediatric opinion as part of a multidisciplinary team for children and young people, and supporting and developing service evaluation and research projects in line with Cass recommendations and NHSE specifications, with a specific focus on safeguarding. This includes developing proposals, seeking ethical approval and funding, gaining consent, collecting and analysing data, and presenting and publishing work.

This role will help develop the evidence base to understand the needs of young people with gender-related distress and to develop management and treatment strategies to support them. The new CYP Gender Service, opened in April 2024, has a focus on understanding the wider needs of CYP with gender-related distress. The post holder will learn skills in MDT working, complex history taking, formulation, and development of management plans.

Work arrangement: 50% based in General Paediatric Endocrinology including gender clinics at UCLH and 50% based in CYPGS. Evening and weekend ‘on call’ work in General Paediatrics can be negotiated. The post offers strong clinical training opportunities alongside excellent patient care.
