Job summary

University of Plymouth is seeking a Clinical Facilitator/Supervisor (Dentist) to oversee dental student clinical treatment and provide feedback. The role is based in Truro and requires NHS/GDC registration, with a focus on maintaining high clinical standards and policy compliance.

Qualifications

Clinical supervisors are responsible for overseeing clinical treatment undertaken by Dental and Dental Therapy students, ensuring the treatment is completed to a high standard and students are given appropriate feedback on their work.

Working within Peninsula Dental School you will supervise undergraduate Dental and Dental Therapy students. As an active clinician in General Dental Practice you will be Registered with the General Dental Council as a dentist, and be in a position to be placed on an NHS performers List. You will be involved in all aspects of Clinical Supervision and assessment in line with national and locally agreed (Peninsula Dental School) clinical Guidelines and Care pathways.

This position is for Mondays and / or Fridays on a fixed-term, term-time basis until the end of the 2026/2027 academic year, but there may be some flexibility available.

  • Monitor the activities and actions of the students in order to ensure development of clinical skills and knowledge of the highest order
  • Ensure the patient receive safe, effective and timely care, and are kept informed about the nature of their treatment
  • Ensure that students follow policy in relation to, for example, infection control procedures, safeguarding and radiation safety.

What we’re looking for
You will have
  • A Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree
  • A relevant teaching qualification (Supervisor will need to complete ‘Teaching Essentials for Associate Lecturers’ course if none available)
  • A team player who plans ahead and is well organised
  • First class clinical skills and experience
  • Ability to provide concise explanations and clear direction and guidance so that the students know what is expected of them and why
  • Ability to provide constructive and objective feedback that supports student learning and development
  • Good all-round knowledge of dental care, with up-to-date knowledge of aspects of general practice within your scope of practice
  • Willing to work to academic standards and be involved in quality assurance
You must currently be registered with the following registration board: General Dental Council (GDC)
