Clinical Engineering Healthcare Scientist

The post-holder will be a member of a team providing Clinical Engineering Services for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other Locations. These Services cover the management of medical devices within the Trust and the maintenance and repair of medical equipment.

Safety and good working practices are an essential component to the duties which are extremely specialised and non-routine and demand a high level of responsibility and independent judgement.

The Clinical Engineering service is working within a quality system ISO9001

Main duties of the job

Planned preventive maintenance and calibration of a wide range of equipment.

Planning and prioritising of own workloads allocated by the Team Leaders.

Working in the close proximity to patients most days.

Ability to work on heavy pieces of equipment where physical effort could be demanded.

Fault finding and repair on complex medical equipment.

Job responsibilities

To undertake duties in and be involved with the maintenance work of the section, as directed by the Team Leaders.

To carry out any project work as directed by the Team Leaders.

To work within the quality system and assist in its maintenance and development.

To ensure that equipment service records are accurately kept in the Clinical Engineering e-Quip system.

To report to the Team Leaders any perceived deficiencies in the tools required or the personal training required to competently performing your duties.

To keep equipment stock spares at correct level as directed by the Team Leaders. These will require re-ordering when stocks are low.

To work flexibly when required meeting the requirements of the service.

To perform such duties at a comparable level of responsibilities, as may normally be agreed with the job holder.

To travel to other hospitals when necessary in the execution of their work to which end a driving licence holder is desirable

Person Specification
Experience
  • Significant experience in Engineering
  • Experience within Clinical Engineering
  • Registered as a Clinical Technologist or Engineering Technician
Skills
  • Highly developed physical accuracy and eye coordination, for working on complex equipment
  • Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own area of competence
  • Able to concentrate when subject to unpredictable working patterns and when working on complex equipment
  • Able to deal with distressing circumstances when working in clinical areas most days
Knowledge
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
Qualifications
  • Qualified to HND/Foundation degree or *equivalent in engineering
  • Specialist knowledge gained through courses with regular updates.
