Job Overview

We are seeking to appoint an influential and transformational Clinical Endoscopist – Bowel Screening for the Endoscopy Service at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. We are inviting applications from experienced Clinical Endoscopists with proven competence in undertaking a range of diagnostic procedures to support the service in developing the speciality. Wrexham Maelor Hospital is the JAG national training centre and one of only two across Wales. We are committed to developing our staff through the appraisal system and aim to provide a personal educational plan for all staff. We are friendly and offer a supportive working environment. As a Clinical Endoscopist you will have a key role in the provision of clinical services and training of staff working within Endoscopy in conjunction with the clinical and management team. The successful candidate will also be a key team member for the delivery of JAG and GRS standards including the implementation of improved clinical pathways and driving innovation through the use of research and audit. You will need an enthusiastic attitude towards new ways of working and be committed to providing the highest standards of care. The post includes 7 day working as the department progresses and expands.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a clinical expert in the field of Endoscopy and will practice at an advanced clinical level and exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care. The post holder will provide clinical leadership, expert practice, and advanced knowledge, integrating research evidence into practice and contributing to/leading on research in this clinical field. The post holder will monitor and improve standards of care through, supervision of practice, clinical audit, identifying quality improvement and research questions, disseminating research findings, national guidelines and promoting their translation into practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership. The post holder will maintain and further develop a local and national profile as a Clinical Endoscopist by being a creative and innovative leader in developing services for this patient group. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • Registered healthcare professional: e.g., NMC or HCPC registration (or other relevant registration e.g., PAMVR)
  • MSc or equivalent experience plus significant knowledge acquired over a significant period
  • BSW Accredited Screening Colonoscopist
  • Independent Prescriber
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching Qualification.
  • Train The Colonoscopy Trainer (TCT) or Train The Endoscopist Trainer (TET) Course
Experience
Essential criteria
  • Evidence of meeting/exceeding screening colonoscopy Assessment and Approval guidance
  • Level 2 and above polypectomy skills and experience
  • Facilitating learning via a variety of teaching and educational methods
  • Evidence of conducting audits
  • Involved in research and or Quality Improvement activity
  • Evidence of managing a caseload or care group in a clinical setting with multidisciplinary working
  • Haemostatic techniques for the treatment of post- polypectomy bleeding
  • Administration of IV conscious sedation
  • Able to administer appropriate antidotes in case of complications, including initiating emergency response pathways and delivering Intermediate Life Support

  • Previous experience as an accredited Screening Colonoscopist
