The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Embryology laboratory in the Department of Reproductive Medicine. The department provides infertility treatments such as IVF, ICSI, donor insemination, cryopreservation, vitrification, and tissue banking, serving the North West Region of England. It also leads in clinical and research areas, including tissue cryopreservation and human embryo development, regulated by UK bodies like the HFEA, MHRA, and UKAS.
The role involves patient care through managing the clinical embryology lab, performing procedures like oocyte retrieval, sperm preparation, embryo assessment, culture, transfer, cryopreservation, and surgical sperm recovery. The post holder will advise medical staff on laboratory procedures, make decisions on embryo treatment suitability, and work on a rota including weekends and on-call duties. Responsibilities also include record-keeping, data analysis, quality management, document review, and contributing to clinical audits and research.
