Job description

The Medical Education Team at The Walton Centre is seeking to recruit two Medical Education Fellows for a fixed-term period of 12 months, with potential for extension. This role supports the Undergraduate Medical Education Team and Senior Education Faculty in delivering high-quality teaching programs.

Applications are open to candidates across various seniority levels, with a minimum requirement of completing competencies at Foundation Year 2. Candidates should have demonstrable clinical experience in Neurology and an enthusiasm for developing skills in clinical teaching and assessment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a GMC-registered doctor interested in medical education to join a dynamic department that offers a diverse teaching program, including classroom-based teaching, bedside teaching, and simulation, for 4th and 5th-year students from the University of Liverpool and Edge Hill University Medical Schools.

The post includes one day of clinical work per week to maintain clinical competencies, with additional clinical duties possible based on undergraduate commitments and at the discretion of the post holder and clinical team.

Main duties of the job

Postholders will work closely under the guidance of senior Education clinical leads to design and deliver the Year 4 Undergraduate Neuroscience module, providing Neurology teaching, simulation, and clinical skills training. The successful candidates will be based at WCFT and will engage with the partner universities as appropriate. This role is ideal for someone with practical Neurology and Neurosurgery knowledge who is interested in a career in medical education and academic medicine. It provides valuable experience prior to research or applying for more senior positions. Candidates should have completed general professional training as a Core Trainee, achieved MRCP/MRCS (UK) or equivalent, and be members of the relevant Royal College.
