About UsThe TOUR (Transforming cancer OUtcomes through Research) team aims to use science to improve healthcare outcomes by translating oncology research into clinical practice. TOUR is led by Professor Mieke Van Hemelrijck, and comprises a team of quantitative and qualitative researchers, clinicians, students, research nurses, trial coordinators, and database managers who are active across the field of translational oncology research.
Moreover, Prof Van Hemelrijck leads Guy's Cancer Real World Evidence (RWE) Programme together with Dr Anne Rigg from Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. The programme aims to amplify Guy's Cancer RWE data science capability and facilitate addressing challenging cancer research questions. The overall aim of Guy's Cancer RWE Programme is to drive world class patient centred research.
This specific post will provide the link between Guy's Cancer RWE Programme and Pharos AI, whilst being the liaison between GSTT Clinical Analytics and research. Hence, the successful candidate will be a member of the TOUR team, with an honorary GSTT contract to facilitate data curation and extraction for the wider initiatives of Pharos AI.
About the roleThis is a unique opportunity to join the team in further developing the services for patients with cancer at Guy's Cancer - with a specific focus on lung cancer and pancreatic cancer. There will be close links with clinical staff as well as the clinical analytics team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust through Guy's Cancer Real World Evidence programme. Moreover, this post will form part of the newly launched
PharosAI initiative.
PharosAI, led by a team of researchers and clinicians from King's, Queen Mary University of London, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, and Barts Health NHS Trust, promises to transform cancer care by unlocking decades of NHS cancer data and hosting it on one powerful, secure, AI-ready platform. PharosAI will accelerate the development and deployment of next-generation AI models for cancer diagnosis and drug discovery, leading to faster and better-informed healthcare for UK cancer patients.
About YouTo be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria- PhD in cancer or data-related discipline or at least 5 years of experience with advanced data-analytics
- Ability to write and communicate effectively on data analysis and interpretation
- Ability to work under pressure and committed to giving attention to quality and validity of the output
- Microsoft Office Professional, SAS, R and STATA - ability to analyse large clinical outcome data sets
- Coding skills using SQL and Python; Experience of managing data in a Data Lakehouse environment such as SNOWFLAKE
- Good statistical knowledge, with excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Highly evolved communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; including written and verbal communication, formal presentations, including to professional/external bodies.
- Knowledge of the Data Protection Act and other relevant security and confidentiality procedures are complied with
Desirable criteria- Experience with application of Natural Language Processing (NLP) Models
- Ability to prioritise workload and plan ahead
- Ability to work independently in a flexible and agile way
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, but also as part of a team
