1We have an excellent opportunity for a Clinical / Counselling Psychologist to join our well-established Department of Adult Psychological Professions to deliver input to the Bariatric Service, St George's University Hospitals. The Bariatric Service is for people in Southwest London who have a BMI >=35kg/m and are high risk due to non-diabetic hyperglycaemia and cardiovascular disease. Assessment, surgery and aftercare is provided by a specialist team of bariatric physicians, surgeons, dietitians and anaesthetists. The Clinical / Counselling Psychology post within the service is well established and highly valued by the team. At 8b level, this post would suit a Clinical / Counselling Psychologist with experience of working in physical health settings / medical teams, ideally with knowledge of Bariatric / Weight Management Services. Alongside delivering the clinical service there are opportunities to be involved in shaping psychology provision in the Bariatric Service, the partner Tier 3 Weight Management Service and more broadly, psychology services across St George's Hospital.



The post holder will be provided with regular supervision and support from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Peer supervision sessions are also arranged on a regular basis with other experienced psychological professionals across Clinical Health Psychology. The Department of Adult Psychological Professions is committed to continuing professional development and career progression. The Department also has excellent links with City St George’s, University of London and the University of Surrey.

To be responsible for the overall provision of specialist psychological input to Bariatric Surgery.This will include –
• Co-ordinating the provision ofspecialist psychological assessment for people under the care of the Bariatric Surgery Service
• Ensuring that people under the care of the Bariatric Surgery Service are signposted to appropriate support services including facilitating referrals to Eating Disorder Teams, IAPT and other mental health services
• Overseeing the provision of focused psychological input to address specific issues around readiness for bariatric surgery and / or adjustment post bariatric surgery,
• Offering advice and consultation on psychological aspects of assessment for and adjustment to bariatric surgery.
