Clinical/Counselling Psychologist - Development Role

We would like to appoint a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to work in the AMH Neighbourhood Mental Health Services (NMHS) in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. We are a pilot site for the Transformation Model working in the community, considering local needs and linking with community services.

The development role starts on Band 7, moving to Band 8a on successful completion of a development plan. We welcome applications for full/part-time working. We provide face-to-face and virtual interventions as clinically appropriate.

The NMHS teams have integrated psychological pathways for individuals with moderate/severe, severe/enduring, and psychosis/bipolar presentations. The post holder will apply Clinical/Counselling Psychology core values and clinical practice, working with a diverse service user group and with a range of complex mental health needs. They will encourage empowered service users to be active in their own recovery and promote trauma-informed care across the NMHS.

This is a full-time post (37.5 hours per week). We would consider part-time (minimum 22.5 hours per week).

Main duties of the job

The post is integral to the NMHS, working with other psychologists and mental health professionals. The post holder will be a valued member of the psychology provision within the Trust.

As a development role, supported personal and professional development will be a priority.

They will provide psychological assessments leading to the development of psychological formulations and individual and/or group interventions.

They will receive both clinical supervision and line management. Across the service, we offer a variety of supervision for evidence-based models and invest in model-specific supervision.

They will contribute to the development of community-based adult mental health services, aligned with key national and local priorities and with local partners. This includes contributing to the applied psychology ways of working as appropriate. This work will endeavour to include more co-produced, psychologically informed, and trauma-informed service delivery.

Job responsibilities

Alongside the Band 7 Job Description and Person Specification, the post holder will also:

  • Behave consistently with and promote the values of the Trust
  • Adhere to HCPC practice guidelines
  • Implement the psychology provision guidelines and trust policies
  • Evaluate referrals, undertake assessments, treatment, and management of patients with psychological difficulties with a varying range of complexity and aetiology, considering clinical need and service capacity
  • Meet and maintain targets within the psychology provision

Additional Criteria
  • Able to meet the travel requirements of the post
  • Previous publications in peer-reviewed academic or professional journals and/or books
Knowledge
  • Knowledge specific to the role and clinical area
  • Advanced theoretical and applied knowledge of psychological approaches and assessments for people with psychological problems, including specialized psychological assessments and interventions
  • Evidence of regular professional training and experience as required by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the HCPC to maintain specialist skills in psychotherapy
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and national guidance and their implications for clinical practice
  • Doctoral-level knowledge of research design and methodology, including the use and limitations of complex multivariate data analysis and qualitative methods within Clinical/Counselling Psychology
Qualifications
  • BSc/BA Honours degree at 2:1 or above in Psychology
  • Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through further training and experience, as required by the HCPC and BPS
  • Eligible for registration as a Chartered Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling) by the BPS
  • Registered with HCPC as a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at the point of offer.
Experience
  • Experience specific to the role and clinical area
  • Experience of multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working
  • Experience of conducting clinically relevant research
  • Significant supervised practice experience, including working with families and care organizations
  • Experience in assessing and providing a wide range of psychological interventions to patients with varying clinical severity
  • Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for patients' psychological care and treatment
  • Experience dealing with distressed patients, cognitive impairments, aggression, or developmental trauma
  • Experience of strategic planning and service development
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to trainees, assistant psychologists, and other professionals
