Qualifications

Job description

We are looking for a very enthusiastic, compassionate, and proactive individual for the role of Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join a well-established multidisciplinary team.

Our service, based in CAMHS Phoenix at Wokingham Community Hospital, is a Tier 4 Day Hospital and Home Treatment Service providing evidence-based psychiatric, nursing, and therapeutic interventions for young people aged 12–18 years. The service caters to young people presenting with severe and complex mental health difficulties requiring Tier 4 care, including co-morbid neurodevelopmental diagnoses such as:

  • Serious risk of harm to self; suicidal thoughts and behavior
  • Emotional dysregulation and symptoms resembling emerging unstable personality disorder
  • Eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, ARFID, and disordered eating related to emotional dysregulation and trauma
  • Low mood, depression
  • Early onset psychosis
  • Severe OCD, complex PTSD
  • Other psychological disturbances affecting functioning outside typical diagnostic criteria

All young people accepted to the service follow a structured programme aligned with NICE guidelines (e.g., anorexia nervosa, depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation).

This is a part-time position – 22.5 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Clinical Assessment: Conduct specialist assessments and develop detailed formulations of presenting difficulties and systemic issues.
  2. Treatment Planning: Collaborate with service users to develop personalized treatment plans based on assessment findings to support recovery and improve quality of life.
  3. Therapeutic Interventions: Deliver evidence-based psychological therapies using a range of techniques and modalities.
  4. Collaboration: Work with multidisciplinary team members and multi-agency partners to ensure integrated client care.
  5. Supervision and Training: Provide supervision and mentorship to junior clinicians and trainees, supporting their professional development.
  6. Research and Development: Engage in applied research, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and enhance clinical practice.
  7. Service Development: Participate in the ongoing development of mental health services, introducing new approaches and sharing expertise.
