At Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT), we strive to provide high-quality mental health and learning disability services as an employer of choice. We can only achieve this by putting our staff and the people using our services at the centre of everything we do. This starts with the people we employ. We want to add to our incredible colleagues, students and volunteers who share these principles, with people like you, who find empathy comes easily and who treat everyone with respect without thinking. Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate clinical/counselling psychologist to join the MDT within a well-established Gender Identity Service. We are committed to robust professional leadership, equality, diversity and inclusion and supporting staff wellbeing and CPD. Our Psychological Professions Strategy outlines our vision.

The service provides a supportive environment and brings together a wide range of experience into a highly specialised MDT which aims to address the needs of patients presenting with difficulties arising from gender dysphoria/incongruence. The team includes consultant clinical psychologists, mental and physical health nurses, speech and language therapists, a consultant psychiatrist, senior psychiatrists, consultant endocrinologists, GPs, gender outreach workers, doctoral level trainee clinical/counselling psychologists and a prescribing pharmacist.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will be providing services to service users in Leeds GIS as a clinical/counselling psychologist. To fulfil this role within the Leeds GIS, there is a requirement from the psychologist to be able to provide independent assessment, formulation and psychological therapy for difficulties arising from gender dysphoria. The role offers the chance to utilise skills in terms of providing supervision to trainees, consultation and facilitating formulation sessions for the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). The successful candidate may be asked to contribute to projects that are in line with service development priorities.

Working for our organisation

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialised services across the country. As a teaching trust with strong links to local universities, we are a centre of excellence for teaching, research and development.

There are many benefits of working for LYPFT including fantastic employee wellbeing support, 27 - 33 days annual leave, flexible working and remote working arrangements, the NHS Pension Scheme, coaching, support and opportunities for career development and training and education support alongside a range of exclusive discounts and payment schemes including for cars, extra leave days and more NHS Discount Offers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role will be fully supported by Clinical Psychology within the team. Experience of working with a gender diverse population is preferred, in particular those candidates with prior experience of working on placement within a gender identity service, those who have completed specific training in gender identity practice e.g. PGCert or PGDip in Gender Identity Healthcare Practice or those with lived experience. Applicants without gender-identity related experience will be considered and will then be trained with a view to becoming an established psychologist competent in carrying out assessment, formulation and therapeutic support.
