Overview

CLINICAL CODING TRAINING LEAD POSITION ATTRACTING A 15% RETENTION AND RECRUITMENT PREMIUM

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Clinical Coding Department as an ACC qualified Clinical Coder at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP).

Core duties are the provision of an efficient and high-quality clinical coding training service, as well as meeting Trust deadlines associated with clinical coding. We are currently implementing an EPR go-live on July 26 and offer hybrid working with more options once UHP is fully digital.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, Priority and At Risk status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who have recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

The post-holder will provide support for the improvement of clinically coded data collection across the Trust and will assist the Head of Clinical Coding and the Clinical Coding Training and Audit Manager in acting as a point of reference for Clinicians and other staff groups.

The post-holder will be responsible for managing and providing clinical coding training throughout the department. To deliver full training programmes with recommendations to Coders and Managerial staff towards the improvement of clinical standards throughout the Trust. The post-holder will assist the Head of Clinical Coding and the Clinical Coding Training and Audit Manager in providing advice and support for clinical coding issues.

Responsibilities

• Provide a comprehensive clinical coding training service for the Trust
• In conjunction with the Clinical Coding Training and Audit Manager, maintain a Trust annual Coding Training Program in keeping with the Data Security Standard 3 Staff Training - Clinical Coding Training requirements. Agree outcomes to be actioned. Produce and implement robust action plans to resolve outcomes.
• To have successfully completed an NHS England Clinical Coding Trainer Program (CCTP) in order to have achieved NHS England Approved Clinical Coding Trainer status.
• Attend all NHS Digital Approved Clinical Coding Trainer refresher training courses/forums as required and complete all NHS England requirements in order to maintain approved clinical coding trainer status.
• Carry out quality checks on coded data for the Trusts inpatient, day case and regular day activity.
• To work in conjunction with staff from the Information team to communicate the importance of clinical coding, including liaising with Service Lines in support of data quality, performance targets and business planning. Undertake presentations where appropriate to clinical, managerial and administrative staff.
• Develop individual training plans for clinical coders as identified through coding audit to provide one-to-one coaching and support.
• Continue to improve the quality of coded data through the delivery of training and awareness sessions to health care professionals.
• Plan, coordinate and deliver a comprehensive clinical coding training schedule for trainee coders and continued training and development of existing staff alongside the Clinical Coding Training and Audit Manager, ensuring compliance with National Standards.
• Promote the schedule of courses to external organisations to generate income for the Trust and, where necessary, work outside of the Trust to deliver training courses.
• Provide advice to clinical staff, business managers, nursing and other staff groups on coding issues as required.
• Undertake clinical coding of patient activity as necessary.
• Participate in regular performance appraisals and supervise Support Trainers and their trainees/mentees where required.
