Job description

Title: Biospecimen Scientist

Location: EMEA wide - homebased

As a Biospecimen Scientist, you will join the world's largest & most comprehensive clinical research organization, powered by healthcare intelligence.


Job Purpose

Responsible for the implementation and end-to-end operational execution of each GCO clinical trial strategy related to biospecimens, including safety, pharmacokinetics, biomarkers, and companion diagnostics, ensuring compliance with client processes, regulations, and ethical standards.


Accountabilities
  • Contribute to biospecimen-related matters for assigned projects under the supervision of the Clinical Biospecimen Lead Scientist, collaborating with internal stakeholders and line function (LF) representatives.
  • Assist in preparing clinical sample assessment sections in trial documents (protocols, consents).
  • Create study-specific sample collection tables, ensuring blood volume requirements are met.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to provide input on biospecimen collection and testing needs.
  • Oversee technical aspects for laboratories involved in kit building, sample management, and testing, including documentation.
  • Address ethical considerations in biospecimen collection and analysis, ensuring compliance across countries.
  • Manage sample lifecycle logistics, including timely analysis, consent, and collaboration with data management.
  • Define sample needs for CRFs and data transfer, coordinating with TDM and labs for data reconciliation.
  • Develop training materials for biospecimen collection procedures at study sites.
  • Handle study close-out activities related to biospecimens and labs, including disposal, return, or storage.
  • Manage relationships with labs in collaboration with vendor management.
Risk Management
  • Collaborate with vendor management to oversee labs.
  • Escalate biospecimen collection and analysis risks and issues promptly.
Resource Management
  • Review lab proposals and provide budget input in collaboration with procurement.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs and best practices within trials and programs.
Activities & Interfaces
  • Work with vendor management on lab oversight.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to understand biospecimen strategies.
  • Participate as a key team member to ensure biospecimen collection, analysis, and data transfer adhere to protocols.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Adherence to GCO processes, SOPs, and ICH/GCP guidelines.
  • Effective stakeholder communication and timely logistics.
  • Preparation of study documents within deadlines.
  • Timely sample transportation and data transfer.
  • Quality execution of biospecimen activities.
  • Operational planning and risk mitigation.
