Full time starting salary is normally in the range £105,504 to £139,882

Role Summary

The candidate, as a Clinical Associate Professor, will contribute to teaching, research, and administration, fostering respectful and supportive relationships with staff and students. Responsibilities include developing and leading major teaching programmes, enhancing student experience and employability, conducting impactful research with an international reputation, and engaging in department and university management and administration. The role also involves clinical service as part of an honorary contract with Birmingham Community Health Care Trust.

Main Duties

Education

  • Contribute to pedagogical knowledge, develop teaching resources, and engage in practice-based research.
  • Lead on innovative teaching approaches, including digital resources, curriculum design, and student engagement.
  • Participate in education policy debates, external quality assurance, recruitment, and development of teaching and assessment strategies.
  • Mentor colleagues and develop new teaching methods informed by research.

Research

  • Maintain sustained research activities, publish internationally excellent work, and contribute to policy development.
  • Manage research projects, develop methodologies, and engage in public and impact activities.

Management/administration

  • Lead departmental activities, represent the school at various committees, and promote equality and diversity.
  • Participate in university governance, lead external engagement, and manage teams for research or recruitment initiatives.

Citizenship

  • Address wellbeing issues within the university community and collaborate on solutions.

Person Specification

  • Must be a registered dentist with specialist training, GDC registration, and active participation in clinical revalidation.
  • Proven competence in teaching, management, and administration.

Learning and teaching requirements

  • Strong teaching record, innovative methods, and significant impact on student experience and employability.

Research requirements

PhD and relevant research experience are prerequisites.

Management and administration-related requirements

  • Experience in leadership, committee participation, promoting equality, and developing interventions for diversity issues.

Clinical Service

  • Engage in pediatric dentistry clinical activities, develop clinical skills, support teaching, and collaborate with local trusts to strengthen pediatric dental services.
