Position Summary

The Clinical Assistant Nurse Manager (CANM) is responsible for leading shift operations within the clinical setting to ensure high-quality care, exceptional customer experience, and optimal patient flow. Working with the Department Nursing Operations Manager and the Assistant Nursing Operations Manager (ANOM), the CANM provides guidance, fosters collaboration, and manages the unit’s clinical operations, including patient care assignments, customer experience, productivity, and quality outcomes. These units typically care for patients with advanced illnesses or injuries requiring timely, complex care to stabilize and support their medical conditions, often with a lower caregiver-to-patient ratio and highly trained staff.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Exemplifies the mission, vision, and values of Baptist Health and Orlando Health.
  2. Participates in shared leadership structures.
  3. Manages staffing assignments for shifts based on patient acuity and staff skill sets to meet care needs.
  4. Coordinates patient flow with Administrative Supervisors, Care Coordinators, and Discharge Planners to achieve expected outcomes.
  5. Monitors patient statuses, especially for seriously ill patients.
  6. Ensures compliance with physician orders, policies, procedures, and standards of practice during patient care delivery.
  7. Serves as a resource for frontline team members and providers.
  8. Supports clinical collaboration focusing on patient length of stay.
  9. Performs direct patient care activities as needed to meet operational demands.
  10. Engages with patients and families through rounds and addresses complaints to enhance customer experience.
  11. Leads safety huddles and promotes a culture of safety.
  12. Embraces change, communicates effectively, and promotes problem-solving.
  13. Assesses equipment needs and ensures staff have necessary tools for patient care.
  14. Sustains leader-driven initiatives and supports staff retention strategies.
  15. Maintains a regulatory-ready environment of care.
  16. Allocates staff appropriately, manages breaks, and ensures adequate coverage.
  17. Utilizes fiscal management skills for decision-making and resource allocation.
  18. Maintains punctual attendance per organizational policies and standards.
  19. Ensures compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
  20. Participates in leadership huddles, new initiatives, and fosters multidisciplinary collaboration.
  21. Serves as a coach and mentor for nursing staff.
  22. Communicates ideas clearly and effectively in verbal and written formats.
  23. Promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  24. Supports a safe working environment and follows up on workplace violence occurrences.
  25. Ensures clinical practice aligns with the Professional Practice Model and evidence-based standards.
  26. Participates in audits and data collection to identify improvement opportunities and trends.
Qualifications

Education/Training: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Current RN license in Alabama or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), BLS certification; additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC may be required based on patient population.

Experience: Minimum of one year of RN experience; acute care experience preferred.
