Position Summary

The Clinical Assistant Nurse Manager (CANM) is responsible for leading shift operations within the clinical setting to ensure the delivery of high-quality care, an exceptional customer experience, and optimal patient flow. Working in conjunction with the Department Nursing Operations Manager and the Assistant Nursing Operations Manager (ANOM), the CANM provides guidance, fosters collaboration, and oversees the unit’s clinical operations, including patient care assignments, customer experience, productivity, and quality outcomes. This role involves managing settings where acute care patients receive active treatment for injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, or post-intervention assessments.

Responsibilities
  1. Exemplify the mission, vision, and values of Orlando Health.
  2. Participate in the shared leadership structure.
  3. Manage staffing assignments for oncoming and outgoing shifts based on patient acuity and staff skill sets to meet patient care needs.
  4. Coordinate patient flow by working directly with Administrative Supervisors, Care Coordinators, and Discharge Planners to achieve expected outcomes.
  5. Monitor the overall status of patients within the area of responsibility, with particular attention to seriously ill patients.
  6. Coordinate and/or participate in the delivery of patient care, ensuring compliance with physician orders and established policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  7. Serve as a resource supporting frontline team members and providers as appropriate.
  8. Support clinical collaboration focusing on expected patient length of stay.
  9. Perform direct patient care activities as needed to meet operational requirements.
  10. Interface with patients and families to enhance the customer experience by conducting Nurse Leader rounds and responding to patient, family, and physician concerns.
  11. Participate in and/or lead safety huddles.
  12. Promote and communicate change and problem-solving initiatives.
  13. Assess equipment needs to ensure staff have the necessary tools for patient care and can utilize equipment appropriately.
  14. Support and sustain all leader-driven initiatives.
  15. Assist with retention strategies for new team members to foster a positive work environment.
  16. Maintain a regulatory-ready environment of care.
  17. Ensure appropriate staff allocation, including assignment of meal breaks and relief of team members as needed.
  18. Utilize effective fiscal management skills and financial resources in decision-making.
  19. Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other applicable standards.
  20. Ensure compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education/Training: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Alabama or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Certification in area of expertise is preferred and may require advanced certifications based on the patient population.
