Position Summary

The Clinical Assistant Nurse Manager (CANM) is responsible for leading shift operations within the clinical setting to ensure high-quality care, an exceptional customer experience, and optimal patient flow. Working with the Department Nursing Operations Manager and the Assistant Nursing Operations Manager (ANOM), the CANM provides guidance, fosters collaboration, and oversees the unit’s clinical operations, including patient care assignments, customer experience, productivity, and quality outcomes. This role involves managing care for patients receiving active treatment for injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, or post-intervention assessments.

Responsibilities
  1. Serve as an exemplar of the mission, vision, and values of Orlando Health.
  2. Participate in the shared leadership structure.
  3. Manage staffing assignments for shifts based on patient acuity and staff skill sets to meet care needs.
  4. Coordinate patient flow by collaborating with Administrative Supervisors, Care Coordinators, and Discharge Planners to achieve desired outcomes.
  5. Monitor patient status within the area of responsibility, with special attention to seriously ill patients.
  6. Coordinate and participate in the delivery of patient care, ensuring compliance with physician orders, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  7. Support frontline team members and providers as a resource.
  8. Focus on clinical collaboration to optimize patient length of stay.
  9. Perform direct patient care activities as needed to meet operational demands.
  10. Engage with patients and families through Nurse Leader rounds and address complaints from patients, families, and physicians.
  11. Lead or participate in safety huddles.
  12. Promote and communicate change and problem-solving initiatives.
  13. Assess equipment needs to ensure staff have necessary tools for patient care and proper utilization.
  14. Support and sustain leader-driven initiatives.
  15. Assist in retention strategies to foster a positive work environment.
  16. Maintain a regulatory-ready environment of care.
  17. Ensure appropriate staffing, including meal breaks and relief, and adjust staff assignments as needed.
  18. Apply fiscal management skills to optimize resource utilization.
  19. Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with policies and relevant laws.
  20. Ensure compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Education/Training: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current RN licensure in Alabama or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). BLS certification. Area-specific certifications preferred; additional certifications may be required based on patient population.
