Loughborough University invites applications for a Research Associate in Geotechnical Numerical Modelling for Climate-Resilient Earthworks. The role supports Professor Alister Smith and leads modelling work within ABCE to advance climate-resilient earthworks research.

You will calibrate and validate numerical models, coordinate a team of doctoral researchers, and disseminate findings through journals and industry engagements, contributing to a high-profile research programme.

Qualifications

• Experience in performing simulations of hydraulic and mechanical behaviour using geotechnical numerical analysis packages.
• Experience developing numerical models for geotechnical problems and calibrating/validating with lab and field data.
• Strong understanding of unsaturated soil mechanics and environmental loading effects on geotechnical assets.

Responsibilities

• Develop, calibrate and validate advanced numerical modelling frameworks for geotechnical problems.
• Conduct forensic analyses of historical earthwork failures and evaluate performance under extreme weather and climate scenarios.
• Coordinate the research group and disseminate outcomes through publications, presentations and industry collaborations.
