Description

To lead the monthly payrolls and benefit activities for Asta's HR client portfolio (currently 9 clients) along with a small group of overseas payrolls for the business. This role takes full ownership of payroll and benefits delivery, ensuring processes are executed efficiently, accuracy and to deadline. It is accountable for driving continuous improvement, maintain compliance and delivering a consistently high quality client experience across UK and international jurisdictions.

Your New Role

  • Own and manage end to end payroll operations for multiple UK and overseas client entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution across various providers and systems. Proactively identify and resolve issues, maintaining a high standard of service delivery.
  • Lead Client on-boarding to payroll systems, ensuring HMRC registration and all payroll set up complies with payroll legislation. Act as a strategic partner to clients, delivering seamless transitions through clear communications and project management.
  • Strategically plan and execute tax year end processing, including P11D(b), P60s and Directors NI reconciliation. Ensure full compliance in UK and overseas tax authority requirements. liaising with HMRC and other bodies when needed.
  • Take ownership of client pension administration including auto-enrolment, on-boarding, off-boarding and ad-hoc adjustments. Develop and implement strategies to optimise pension processes and ensure ongoing compliance with UK and overseas legislation.
  • Lead and manage the annual benefits renewal process for all Asta clients. Responsibilities include liaising with the clients benefit providers and Brokers to assess offerings, recommend improvements, negotiate costs and ensuring accurate processing and reconciliation of benefits such as Group Income Protection (GIP), Group Life Assurance (GLA) and Private Medical Insurance (PMI).
  • Maintain and oversee the Medical Underwriting log for all relevant client employees, informing the Broker of both existing and new joiners, that exceed the free cover level throughout the year, particularly during the annual salary review process.
  • Continuously improve payroll systems and processes, leveraging technical expertise to drive efficiency, automaton and scalability. Champion best practices and innovation across the payroll and benefits function.
  • Generate and analyse payroll data and reports, providing strategic insights and data to support each clients need and organisational goals.
  • Conduct bi-annual reviews of preferred Benefit Brokers, ensuring competitive service offerings and Management Fees. Lead transitions to alternative Brokers where necessary to better meet client needs.
  • Supporting the wider HR team with strategic projects including client on-boarding and off-boarding onto client payroll software, including BACs setup. Ensure a first-class client experience through effective project management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with the Talent Acquisition, HR and Culture and Talent teams ensuring alignment and consistency in the employee experience across all client organisations.

What You'll Bring to the Role
  • CIPP qualified, with previous significant experience setting up, managing and processing multiple, complex payrolls and benefits at a similar level. A strong understanding of HRMC requirements and payroll legislation are essential. Proven ability to review and enhance payroll processes strategically.
  • Strong organisational, task management and client relationship management skills, with ability to independently manage multiple clients and tasks simultaneously, meeting differing monthly deadlines, whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Displays strong numerate and analytical skills, with advanced level Excel skills. Capable of conducting data analysis to support strategic decision making and process improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical payroll information and benefits advice clearly to clients at all levels in a confident and professional manner. Skilled in influencing stakeholders and driving strategic initiatives.
  • Proficient in HRIS and payroll systems ensuring high levels of accuracy and attention to detail, with a natural inclination to develop and improve processes and procedures to create efficiencies. Experience in implementing new systems and running parallel payrolls would be advantageous.
  • Flexible team player who can adapt to changing priorities and is prepared to ensure work in this standalone role is completed accurately and to deadline. Capable of independently identifying inefficiencies and implementing strategic improvements to enhance service delivery.
