This FTC Specialist, Client Development role is a strategic opportunity to support our high-growth Technology and Life Sciences (“T/LS”) team, reporting directly to the London-based Director of Client Development, and working closely with the client development leaders of the Technology and Life Sciences business units (“BUs”) and their teams. You will work closely with T/LS partners and cross-functional teams to drive business development through market insight, client targeting, and compelling storytelling that differentiates Goodwin in a competitive landscape.

The CD Specialists responsibilities include supporting initiatives that align with these group’s marketing and business development plan; organizing client relationship-building activities and tracking business development activities. These projects will involve working with all functional areas of the Client Development department and all levels of firm personnel from partners to global operations team members.

The successful candidate for this role must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as alongside other members of the London and global CD team, to support and advise lawyers in a sophisticated marketing and business development environment. This role is best suited for a high-performing individual with experience in the Tech and/or Life Sciences industry, who is a strong and creative writer and excels at shaping strategic priorities and driving meaningful client impact. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys mentoring others, and is eager to make a meaningful impact on client growth and engagement.

What you will do:

  • Provide support to key CD initiatives, as determined by team leadership but with particular regards to the T/LS Business Unit.
  • Coordinate, support and track the development of responses to pitches and RFPs/RFIs for new business opportunities and client meetings, under the direction of more senior members of the T/LS CD team and London-based Director.
  • Support the T/LS team on the development and execution of marketing and thought leadership campaigns. Review campaign data for client development opportunities.
  • Update activities and opportunities in the firm’s systems to track new and developing business.
  • Maintain done deals within the matter system and materials and assist with monthly ranking submissions.
  • Maintain practice group/industry descriptions, web content, transaction lists, case studies and other marketing content to ensure that material is compelling and up-to-date.
  • Support in the planning and execution of a programme of opportunities within T/LS (both remote and in-person), such as industry seminars and speaking opportunities, sponsorships and targeted events
  • Provide event logistical support, including on-site event staffing, and assist UK business unit CD leads as needed with attorney and client communications around events. Assist in preparing attendee research packs for large conferences to help attorneys select key targets to meet at events. Set up meetings for partners using online event systems and managing responses.
  • Collaborate with the research and market/competitive intelligence teams to produce in-depth research and analysis of clients, prospects and competitors.
  • Track T/LS market activity on a daily basis to identify deal opportunities and utilise firm network to facilitate introductions between Goodwin and targets.
  • Support on collaboration with memberships of the team to ensure maximum value from our investment. Key memberships include Creative Destructive Labs, Founders Forum and LSX.
  • Work with the London to create targeted, strategic submissions for practice-related and attorney rankings, surveys and awards, including Chambers and Legal 500 and other industry-specific/geographic/attorney demographic awards programs.
  • Tracking client and practice/business unit news and trends, spotting business development opportunities and working to drive these opportunities into revenue.
  • Working with fee-earners and the Comms team to post articles on the Goodwin website and through social media.

Who you are:

  • 4+ years of experience in marketing or professional services business development, ideally in a law firm or other professional services firm.
  • Additional experience working with technology and/or life science practices and /or businesses preferred.
  • Effective and professional communication skills.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to think objectively and work both independently and within a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while prioritizing assignments.
  • Ability to build rapport with attorneys and other professional staff.
  • Strong organizational skills with particular attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including web-based research, MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Dynamics or another CRM system highly desirable.
  • Flexible to work additional hours occasionally when needed.
  • Travel to other Goodwin offices and key events is required.
