Clerk Typist

An opportunity has arisen for a Clerk Typist to join the Orthopaedic Team. The post holder will be part of the administration team, working alongside experienced secretaries to type clinical letters and manage filing.

Interested applicants should hold an RSA/OCR Level I or equivalent qualification, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate flexibility.

Experience within the NHS, a good understanding of medical terminology, familiarity with the Trust's Integrated Patient Management System (IPM), and use of EPRO (clinic letter tool) would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

• Type dictation from audio transcription of clinical correspondence and documentation.
• Type discharge summaries as required.
• Liaise with medical secretaries to ensure follow-up arrangements and investigations are in place.
• Make referrals and appointments in accordance with 18-week guidelines, coordinating with medical secretaries.
• Ensure outgoing post is sent timely and accurately.
• Provide administrative support to clinical teams.
• Input basic data accurately and promptly.
• File test results appropriately and timely.
• Copy letters and discharge summaries to relevant professionals and patients.

Job responsibilities

• File test results promptly and accurately.
• Copy letters and discharge summaries to relevant professionals and patients.
• Retrieve, collect, and book out case notes as needed.
• Perform photocopying, faxing, and general office duties.
• Attend training, meetings, and education sessions as required.
• Collaborate with managers and administrative staff to review and improve working practices.
• Work with team leaders, secretaries, and managers to enhance service quality and manage resources according to policies.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• GCSE/O Level or equivalent
• RSA/OCR Level I or equivalent
• Knowledge of medical terminology

Experience

• Proficient in Microsoft Office packages
• Experience with office procedures
• NHS experience is preferred
