Clerk of Works

- Hours: Overnight 9pm to 5am Monday to Friday.
We are seeking a highly experienced Clerk of Works to supervise the construction of a Section 278 Scheme in the Borough. This role involves overseeing the signalisation of a motorway junction, incorporating pedestrian crossing facilities, vehicle restraint systems, and associated infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with approved drawings, traffic management arrangements, and method statements.
Day-to-day of the role
- Oversee and inspect highway and civil engineering schemes to ensure standards and specifications are met.
- Liaise with contractors, sub-contractors, and consultants on all matters relating to the construction process.
- Record, maintain, and update accurate records of construction work activities, progress against programme, and known constraints.
- Assist in the receipt, tracking, and preparation of all correspondence, documentation, and technical specifications required for construction.
- Ensure all construction works meet the required quality standards as set out in British Standards and contract information.
- Communicate construction work defects to the contractor and oversee rectification prior to completion within agreed deadlines.
- Issue changes to works information and assist in certifying payments in conjunction with the Projects Manager/Engineer.
- Ensure appropriate health, safety, and welfare provisions are in place and adhered to by the contractor and their sub-contractors.
- Carry out and/or oversee basic setting out in conjunction with contractors to ensure schemes are delivered on site as per plans.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including statutory undertakers, the public, and businesses.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Significant experience in supervisory roles related to construction works on the public highway.
- Ability to interpret detailed and complex technical information from documents and drawings.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with strong negotiating skills.
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to analyse complex situations and develop solutions.
- HND in Civil Engineering or similar technical discipline.
- Knowledge of Chapter 8 Temporary Traffic Management Regulations and Street Works permitting.
- Full UK driving licence and CSCS card are essential.
