Job description

A new opportunity for a Senior Clerk of Works to join a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy as a Clerk of Works Team Leader. The successful candidate will oversee a small team of Clerk of Works and inspect new build projects around the Hertfordshire area.

This is a home-based role, with regular travel to sites around Hertfordshire as required.

Applications from Chartered Members of the Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWIC) are highly welcome, with other professional bodies also desirable.

The Clerk of Works Team Leader will oversee the work of team members, including professionally qualified staff, and manage several clients. The candidate should have a diverse and extensive range of experience.

This role is suitable for a Senior Clerk of Works looking to advance their career and take on managerial responsibilities. The candidate will initially manage a small team and perform Clerk of Works duties on residential new build projects.

The position is home-based with regular site visits around Hertfordshire.

Responsibilities and Duties

The duties include:

  • Overseeing residential building works to ensure quality, safety, and timely delivery.
  • Performing general Clerk of Works duties.
  • Managing staff and teams.
  • Resource coordination.
  • Commercial project management.
  • Training and team development.
  • Business development.
  • Quality assurance.
Desired Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Deep knowledge of Building Regulations and warranty standards.
  • Strong report writing skills, with confidence in reviewing reports and escalating issues.
  • Effective communication at all levels.
  • Understanding of commercial aspects of team and project management.
  • Confidence in business development.
  • Enthusiasm for career development.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office 360.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
  • Membership of a professional body such as MICWCI, MCIOB, MRICS, or MCABE is required.
