Job summary

Our client, a prominent entity within London's Public Sector, is seeking a proficient Clerk of Works (Highways Capital Project Delivery) on a contract basis to contribute to their dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and monitor on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Conduct daily site inspections and surveys, maintaining detailed records and reporting progress to Project Engineers.
  • Ensure quality control through regular checks on materials, workmanship, and construction processes.
  • Enforce health and safety protocols in line with CDM 2015, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and other relevant legislation.
  • Manage traffic management measures, signage, and road markings in accordance with Traffic Management Orders and design guidelines.
  • Liaise with developers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth project delivery and compliance with KPIs.
  • Support issue resolution, change management, and financial tracking throughout the construction phase.
  • Review and verify CAD drawings, "as-built" plans, and traffic management documentation.
  • Coordinate work programmes and assess contractor performance at key project milestones.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience in highways, transport, or public realm project delivery.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, including:
  • Highways Act 1980
  • New Roads and Street Works Act 1991
  • Traffic Management Act 2004
  • CDM Regulations 2015
  • Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984
  • Flood and Water Management Act 2010
  • Town and Country Planning Act 1990
  • Experience managing contractors and sub-contractors on-site.
  • Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Commitment to equality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with project management tools and reporting systems.
  • Financial awareness and experience supporting budget tracking and cost control.
