Job description

The Role

We are looking for an individual to join our team on a major UK construction project as a site-based Project Clerk of Works starting at the Havant Thicket Reservoir Project, Hampshire reporting directly to the Quality Manager & Project Manager. Working in a team, the successful candidate will support the management and delivery of the Havant Thicket Reservoir Project.

You will be working within a flexible organisation where self-motivated and practical problem solvers will thrive. We will help you develop your knowledge and experience further, by providing plenty of exposure to a variety of matters in a supportive working environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Inspecting, Recording & Documenting Earthworks Processes for the purpose of Quality Assurance.
  2. Inspecting the workmanship and quality of delivered works.
  3. Recording the quality to a suitable level of detail in accordance with the specification, ITP and Quality Management System documentation.
  4. Supporting the undertaking of testing on completed works – liaising with site lab and Quality Manager to facilitate in-situ testing.
  5. Identify defects with works, confidence to stop the works and knowledge to get defect resolved quickly and effectively with support of the wider team where required. This may include raising and closing out Non-conformance Reports (NCRs) in line with company procedures.
  6. Supporting the Quality Manager, and wider QA team with production of QA documents such as ITPs, and support with the reviewing of design and construction documents such as RAMS from a quality perspective.
  7. Review classification of excavated material on site to ensure compliance with the specification.
  8. Supporting the Production of quality forms and checklist to facilitate the quality of all earthworks and materials testing.
  9. Working with project management and engineering staff to improve the quality of work on site. And suggest possible improvements on daily activities and ensure that production is maximised whilst ensuring quality is maintained at the highest level.
  10. Liaising with the designers and client supervisors, including the Panel engineer where required.
  11. Promoting health and safety on site.
  12. Helping to ensure works are completed to programme.

What we are looking for:

  1. A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering or Construction (Such as a Degree/HNC - or similar).
  2. Experienced with earthworks testing procedures.
  3. Experience as a CQA Engineer is beneficial.
  4. Experience with working on reservoirs beneficial however not essential.
  5. Ideally with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
  6. UKAS Soils Laboratory testing experience beneficial.
  7. Proactive in highlighting and efficiently resolving non-conformance testing result.
  8. Excellent record keeping skills, knowledge of the AutoDesk Construction Cloud Platform is preferable.
  9. Strong communication skills and ability to discuss technical aspects with other technical and non-technical individuals.
  10. Good understanding of Specification for Highway works.
  11. Previously worked as a Senior Engineer, Materials Engineer or Quality Engineer, having a strong knowledge and experience of groundworks, earthworks, material testing and the re-use of excavated material.
  12. Good understanding of Quality within the Construction process.
  13. Relevant qualifications including CSCS Card.
  14. Strong knowledge of HSQE regulations.
  15. Computer literacy with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office programmes.
  16. High level of attention to detail.
  17. Self-motivated and able to work in a team and by themselves.
  18. Site based hours.
  19. Full UK Driving Licence is also required.

More generally, you will need to be committed, reliable, flexible both in terms of UK travel (and staying away overnight where required) and range of tasks performed and possess a good team-working ethic.
