The role of the Clerk of Works/Capital Project Manager requires the individual to be thoroughly familiar with production drawings, specifications, schedules, and other relevant documents related to each project they oversee. Knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts, including full service and Design and Build, is essential.
Responsibilities include checking regularly that work is being undertaken in accordance with drawings, specifications, and schedules, and in compliance with contract conditions and relevant codes of practice. Health and Safety considerations must be prioritized, including coordinating method statements with contractors before work commences.
Assist the Head of Capital Projects and Property in developing the Trust’s Capital Program and managing specific projects to enhance the environment for patients and staff.
Commission and project manage capital projects, including major revenue projects and work on business case development.
Represent technically at project meetings (Steering Groups & Specialist Design Groups) linked to capital schemes and provide technical input to project group meetings.
Provide expert construction and facilities project advice throughout the Trust on behalf of the Head of Estates.
Work with the Head of Capital Projects and Property to develop and implement long-term capital plans and procurement strategies. Offer specialist advice on sustainable design issues to healthcare designers and planners. Conduct audits on proposed designs to ensure they meet organizational requirements.
Manage project teams and contractors directly involved in projects.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sustainable and healthcare-related design issues in construction.
