A Clerk of Works job to cover the West Midlands area and suitable candidates for this exciting role will ideally reside within the West Midlands region.

The Clerk of Works position is based from home, with site visits within the counties of West Midlands, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, and Worcestershire on a daily basis.

Projects will mainly involve new builds and refurbishment works, with a strong emphasis on residential sector projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Act as the principal point of contact with the social housing client regarding construction quality on site.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve issues early and ensure stakeholder satisfaction with the quality of the construction process and the completed social housing projects.
  • Manage multiple social housing projects simultaneously, employing excellent time management strategies for efficient work practices.
  • Visit multiple sites regularly using the provided company car, and be an integral part of each site team and the broader Clerk of Works team across the county and England.
  • Provide dictated reports and photographs to the head office administration team after each site inspection for timely reporting and follow-up.
  • Have a good understanding of the building and housing industry, with basic technical and construction awareness, including knowledge of materials, trades, methods, and legal requirements.
  • Possess good communication skills and a diplomatic manner to establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and colleagues.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a similar construction role, such as Clerk of Works, Employers Agent, Building Control/Warranty Inspector, or Site Manager.
  • Previous work for social housing organizations, consultancies, or building contractors/housebuilders is highly desirable.
  • Good knowledge of building regulations and the ability to read construction drawings.
  • Membership or willingness to achieve membership of the Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate of GB (LICWCI, MICWCI, or FICWCI), with professional fees covered by the employer.
  • Strong client-facing skills and demonstrable experience in this area are advantageous.
