Overview:


We are partnering with a leading construction consultancy to appoint a Clerk of Works. This key role is responsible for monitoring construction activities to ensure that all materials and workmanship comply with design specifications, contract documents, and industry standards. Acting as the client's on-site representative, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in safeguarding construction quality and delivery.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret contract drawings, specifications, project schedules, and bills of quantities
  • Understand and monitor compliance with the project's Health & Safety Plan, British Standards, and Approved Codes of Practice
  • Inspect construction works on-site to ensure they meet specified quality and design standards
  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records of on-site activities and findings
  • Liaise effectively with the Employer's Agent, architect, quantity surveyor, and contractor's site management
  • Advise on construction materials, techniques, and samples when required
  • Ensure appropriate use of site documentation and report discrepancies promptly
  • Assist the project team in identifying and resolving technical or quality issues
  • Provide fair, professional assessments of site progress, risks, and overall compliance
  • Deep understanding of construction methods, building regulations, and materials
  • Proficient in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Strong reporting and documentation skills
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations, British Standards, and best practices in construction
  • Excellent planning and time-management skills
  • High attention to detail and methodical working style
  • Strong judgement and analytical problem-solving ability
  • Effective communicator and confident negotiator
  • Proven track record of building productive relationships with contractors and consultants
  • Committed, enthusiastic, and professional with a strong work ethic


Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:

  • Minimum of 10 years of practical construction site experience
  • Membership of the Institute of Clerks of Works (ICWCI) or equivalent
  • Experience across residential, commercial, or public sector projects
  • Background working within a consultancy or in collaboration with Employer's Agents
