Job summary

Together Housing Group in Blackburn is seeking a dedicated Clear & Clean Operative to join our team. You will work across our operational yard and housing stock, supporting waste and recycling tasks, property clearances, and final cleans to prepare homes for new residents.

The role is full-time, 37 hours per week, with a 7:30am–3:30pm Monday–Thursday and 7:30am–3:00pm Fridays. A Full Manual UK Driving Licence is essential, along with cleaning or caretaking experience and a customer-focused

Qualifications

• Full Manual UK Driving Licence required.
• Practical experience in cleaning or caretaking.
• Experience in customer oriented environment.
• Ability to operate cleaning/caretaking equipment.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act and site safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day waste and recycling operation, sorting and disposing of materials.
• Segregate waste streams and maximise recycling opportunities.
• Dismantle appliances and other items for recycling or disposal.
• Maintain a safe, organised yard environment and comply with health and safety.
• Carry out property clearances, final cleans, deep cleans and garden maintenance.
• Assist with removal and disposal of household goods and bulky items.
• Communicate professionally with residents, colleagues and contractors.
• Adhere to risk assessments, COSHH requirements, and safe systems of work.
• Carry out basic checks and maintenance of tools and vehicles.

Job description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and reliable Clear & Clean Operative to join our team in Blackburn. This varied role will primarily be based within our operational yard, where you will take a lead role in supporting the day-to-day management of waste and recycling activities. Responsibilities will include segregating waste streams, managing scrap materials, dismantling appliances and other items for recycling or disposal, and maintaining a safe, organised and efficient working environment in line with our recycling objectives.

In addition to these yard-based responsibilities, you will also support property clearances, final cleans, garden works, and other Clear & Clean activities across our housing stock as service demands require. This is a hands-on role that offers a balance of waste management, recycling, property clearance, and cleaning work while helping us prepare homes for new residents and maintain our environmental standards.

• Support the day-to-day management of the waste and recycling operation, ensuring materials are sorted, processed and disposed of appropriately.
• Segregate waste streams and maximise recycling opportunities in line with organisational and environmental objectives.
• Manage scrap materials, dismantle appliances and other items for recycling or disposal, and ensure all waste is handled safely.
• Maintain a safe, organised and efficient yard environment, ensuring work areas are kept clean and compliant with health and safety requirements.
• Conduct property clearances, final cleans, deep cleans and garden maintenance to prepare empty homes for new residents.
• Assist with the removal, transportation and disposal of household goods, waste and bulky items from properties.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with residents, colleagues and contractors, taking ownership of issues to ensure a high standard of customer service.
• Adhere to health and safety procedures and promote a positive safety-first culture at all times.
• Ensure compliance with risk assessments, COSHH requirements, safe systems of work and relevant industry legislation.
• Carry out basic checks, servicing and maintenance of tools, vehicles and equipment, reporting defects where required.

Requirements for a Clean and Clear Operative:

• Full Manual UK Driving Licence.
• Practical experience in cleaning or caretaking.
• Experience working in a customer-oriented environment.
• Ability to operate relevant cleaning/caretaking equipment and machinery.
• Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act and site-specific safety protocols.
