Job description

We have vacancies for Street Cleansers. No previous experience is required.

The teams that collect our waste and recycling from the side of the road, to send it on its way to be sorted and recycled into new products or turned into electricity, are the first line of defence in the battle to protect our local and global environment. If our teams stopped collecting for just 1 week, four thousand tonnes of waste would be left on the streets of our beautiful Dorset.

It can be hard work; it can be messy. But if you’re looking for work life balance, you like being outdoors and would like a job that is sure to keep you fit, then why not consider working with us.

This is an outdoor based role.

Duties

  • Undertake duties relating to the manual sweeping, collection and removal of litter, dirt and debris, emptying of litter bins and, if specified, emptying Dog bins.

  • May be required to carry out the cleaning of public toilets. To carry out any small repairs or maintenance issues, including removal of small blockages, if specified.

  • The removal of graffiti, when required

  • The collection of Fly-tips

  • Road sweeping duties using mechanical or non mechanical means.

  • Complete daily paperwork as required

  • To comply fully with Health and Safety guideline, ensuring safe working practices.

  • Any other reasonable and comparable duties as required.

Level 2

  • Required as part of daily duties to drive and be responsible for Council vehicles below 3.5t

  • Responsible for daily vehicle checks, ensuring the vehicle is mechanically operational and roadworthy. Completion of relevant statutory paperwork.

A Range Of Benefits Including

  • Training and development opportunities, particularly if you’d like to progress to be trained as an HGV driver

  • Generous holiday entitlement - 27 days holiday each year plus some bank holidays - rising to 32 days after 5 years' service, with the option to buy additional leave

  • Double time of basic pay for any bank holiday working

  • Local Government Pension scheme including immediate life cover.
