Job summary

Custom Interconnect Ltd. is seeking a Cleanroom Maintenance Engineer to uphold ISO7 cleanroom facilities and associated equipment.

You will maintain environmental-control systems, coordinate preventative maintenance, and support process engineering with improvements. The role requires hands-on experience with cleanroom operations and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and a proactive approach to safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Maintenance Engineering role in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
• Experience with clean room environmental controls (HVAC, HEPA filtration, LEV) within ISO7 environments.
• Experience in organisations certified to ISO 9001, AS 9100, ISO 13485, IATF 16949.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office for documents and spreadsheets.
• Ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment (e.g. wafer dicing saws, die bonders, wire bonders).
• Education to at least HNC Level 4 or a degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Experience working with Process Engineering and Quality teams to analyse SPC data and maintenance trends.
• Experience in a 6S environment and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clean room and equipment to ISO7 standards and ensure readiness for semiconductor packaging production.
• Ensure reliable, safe and compliant operation of cleanroom facilities, environmental-control systems and utilities.
• Define and document daily/weekly/monthly maintenance tasks and schedule preventative maintenance.
• Organise annual service/calibration visits with external suppliers.
• Investigate faults and coordinate internal/external repair where needed.
• Assist Process Engineering to implement improvements and address process drift.
• Review equipment spares and consumables; manage stores.
• Coordinate with IT for back-ups and data integrity of manufacturing systems.
• Maintain LEV systems and liaise with external contractors/auditors.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

As a clean room maintenance engineer, you will maintain CIL’s clean room facility and manufacturing equipment to a high functional standard, ensuring it remains ready to fulfil its semiconductor packaging production and engineering build requirements. More specifically:

Responsible for the reliable, safe and compliant operation and maintenance of cleanroom facilities, environmental-control systems, utilities and associated manufacturing infrastructure within CIL’s ISO7 semiconductor assembly and test environment.

Work closely with OSAT Process Engineering, Production and Quality to ensure the manufacturing environment consistently, clean room conditions, utilities and supporting equipment remain operational, minimise downtime and maintaining the required standards of cleanliness.

Key duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to;

Assist Process Engineering to define and document low level Daily, Weekly and higher level Monthly and Quarterly maintenance tasks as part of standard operational procedures.

Monitor schedules for Daily/Weekly maintenance tasks as carried out by Production as part of ensuring equipment preventative maintenance schedules are met.

Carry out higher level Monthly/Quarterly equipment maintenance tasks in accordance with the established maintenance schedule.

Ensure equipment service requirements are met by organising annual service/calibration visits by equipment suppliers in a timely manner.

Investigate equipment faults or poor performance and repair where possible in the event of break down, and/or contact external service engineers and support when on-site.

Assist Production and Process Engineering to correct instances of process drift or equipment poor performance and identify/implement opportunities for improvement.

Identify and periodically review equipment critical spares lists and ensure the storage and maintenance of all machine spares held in stores.

Identify and periodically review equipment consumables and ensure the storage and maintenance of all consumable items held in stores.

Identify equipment needs for manufacturing program electronic back-ups and work with the IT Team to ensure the periodic updating and safe storage of all back-up media.

Maintain and service all LEV systems within the clean room to ensure safe and functional compliance for Production and Engineering team use.

Assist external LEV contractors and/or auditors to optimise and maintain all clean room LEV systems.

Support the Production team in sourcing and positioning improved and/or additional benches, trolleys, racks and ESD facilities – test stations, ESD mats.

Support CIL Maintenance team to ensure all clean room teams and equipment have safe and functional access to utilities: e.g. compressed air, electrical power, nitrogen, water, waste-water drainage.

Liaise with external contractors/providers to improve clean room utility provision where required, e.g. compressed air, electrical, nitrogen supply.

Support the Process Engineering team and CIL Maintenance in all activity involving the movement of equipment, i.e. installation of new equipment into the clean room, movement to a new location within the clean room or removal of equipment from the clean room to a new site.

Assess requirements for the timely installation of all new equipment prior to commission by the provider; pre-clean of equipment upon delivery, transfer into the clean room, movement and position to clean room location and provision and connection to all required utilities and/or LEV systems.

Support both the internal and external audit programs and function as the first point of contact for audits concerning clean room and clean room equipment maintenance.

Maintain and service the clean room HVAC system and all associated filtration and ducting to ensure the clean room remains compliant to ISO7 standard in accordance with BS EN ISO 14644.

Recruit, train and mentor a small team of maintenance technicians, when required, to be competent in all clean room and equipment maintenance activities.

Day-to-day management of clean room maintenance technicians: daily tasks, development, time-and-attendance and general discipline.

Key Skills and Competencies

A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Maintenance Engineering role and within a manufacturing/engineering environment.

Experience of working with and maintaining clean room environmental controls, such as HVAC, HEPA filtration and LEV systems designed to function within an ISO7 clean room.

Experience of working within an organisation certified to one or more of the following standards: ISO 9001, AS 9100, ISO 13485, IATF 16949.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (or equivalent), for using spreadsheets and generating written documents.

Ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the business.

Experience in working with electronics manufacturing equipment, and equipment specific to semiconductor manufacturing, e.g. wafer dicing saws, die bonders, wire bonders.

Ideally educated to HNC level (Level 4) or degree level in a discipline relevant to Company needs, such as Electronic, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

Experience in working with Process Engineering and Quality teams to analyse collect and interpret SPC data, Product failure modes, maintenance data, particulate counts to spot trends and identify opportunities for improvement specific to maintenance routines.

Experience in working within a 6S environment and working with internal stakeholders to maintain and monitor a 6S standard of working environment.
