Job Description:
Job Purpose:
To provide a cleaning service within a building or building complex to agreed standards.
1. Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organise and control the work of cleaning staff to ensure that EA standards are met, including undertaking cleaning duties personally.
- Carry out induction and skills training, including refresher training, in line with EA practice.
- Liaise with the building manager or other authorised person on daily cleaning issues.
- Investigate complaints regarding cleaning services, take corrective action, and advise the line manager as needed.
- Ensure supplies of materials and equipment are maintained within budget, and equipment is kept in good condition, used, and stored correctly.
- Monitor the suitability and performance of materials and equipment, advising the line manager of any issues.
- Recommend and implement procedural changes to improve efficiency and standards.
- Ensure cleaning standards meet EA standards.
- Manage key allocation to staff and ensure return at end of day.
- Plan periodic work in consultation with users and report plans before school closures.
- Maintain records of staff attendance, holidays, and absences, and submit these on time.
- Keep records of stock and equipment inventories.
2. General Conditions
- Comply with health and safety laws, regulations, and codes of practice.
- Perform duties in normal working conditions.
- Cover colleagues on sick leave following EA procedures.
- Report absences according to EA procedures.
- Wear protective clothing and appropriate footwear when cleaning.
- Use and care for cleaning equipment properly, reporting defects immediately.
- Complete all necessary paperwork accurately.
- Perform duties within the competence of the employee, including tasks at or below their grade.
3. Training
- Accept training for higher-level duties as required, with payment if applicable.
- Accept and complete training to perform duties up to their grade, including induction and refresher training.
In accordance with Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998), the post-holder is expected to promote good relations, equality of opportunity, and adhere to equality legislation at all times.
Posts involving work in educational institutions are subject to the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007. The successful applicant will require an enhanced disclosure check costing £33. Further details will be provided with the employment contract.
