Job summary

Serco is recruiting a Cleaning Operative for Derwentside IRC, Consett, to deliver high-quality cleaning across a geographical area ensuring safe, clean, and welcoming accommodation for service users and staff.

You will work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with DBS clearance and the ability to travel within the region. The role provides a supportive environment and opportunities for training and development.

Qualifications

  • Previous cleaning experience in domestic, residential or large accommodation settings would be beneficial.
  • Ability to travel within the region and occasionally across the UK with a valid driving licence.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Complete allocated cleaning tasks to the required standard within agreed timescales.
  • Ensure properties are safe and suitable for service users while carrying out cleaning activities.
  • Use cleaning equipment, materials and personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and safely.
  • Check relevant property information before attending sites and report any health and safety concerns or defects.
  • Remove and dispose of waste responsibly, following approved processes and recycling where possible.
  • Support colleagues across different geographical areas when required and assist with inventory delivery, assembly and removal.

What You’ll Do As a Cleaning Operative
  • Complete allocated cleaning tasks to the required standard within agreed timescales.
  • Ensure properties are safe and suitable for service users while carrying out cleaning activities.

  • Comfortable using information technology (IT) systems and updating records accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Willing and able to travel within the region and occasionally across the UK, with a valid driving licence.

Vetting And Checks

DBS Clearance and Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) clearance required. Serco Civil Government is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and Home Office approval.
