Job Opportunity: Cleaner/Porter

Facilities Management has vacancies for Cleaner/Porter roles within our Corporate Asset Management Department.

The department covers three key areas: Fleet Services, Estates, and Facilities Management, providing support services such as acquisitions, disposals, maintenance, and servicing of police buildings and vehicles.

The successful candidates will perform general cleaning and porter duties across various police stations and partner buildings, including offices, washrooms, welfare areas, custody suites, and forensic areas. Full training will be provided according to British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) standards.

There may be a need to travel to other sites within a reasonable distance to cover colleagues' absences. These roles involve working across the West Midlands police estate, primarily in Birmingham, with vacancies at:

• 2 x part-time cleaner/porter positions

Location and hours:

• Bournville Lane Police Station - 25 hours/week, Mon-Fri 08:00-13:00
• Tally Ho Training Centre, Edgbaston - 25 hours/week, Mon-Fri 14:00-19:00

Key Duties:

• Damp dusting furniture, fixtures, and furnishings; cleaning floors and stairwells; washing walls and tiled areas up to 3.53m high using high-level equipment.
• Cleaning kitchens and welfare areas, including refrigerators and cupboards.
• Maintaining cleaning equipment and reporting faults.
• Reporting maintenance issues observed in the building.
• Carrying out porter duties, including manual handling and external area cleaning, as instructed.
• Undertaking training to perform all duties safely and effectively.

Person Specification:

• Experience in similar roles, preferably across multiple sites.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Basic IT skills, including email and e-learning platforms.
• Ability to perform manual handling tasks.
• Willingness to learn and develop skills related to cleaning equipment, manual handling, and safety.
• Ability to travel within the police estate as needed.
• Ability to work independently with good interpersonal skills.
• Availability for some weekend and bank holiday work.

Additional Information:

Applicants currently in probation must seek support from their line manager before applying for other police staff roles. Successful applicants will undergo vetting and security checks, including background and financial disclosures.
