The NHS is seeking a Cleaner to uphold high standards of cleanliness in a healthcare environment. Responsibilities include maintaining cleaning protocols, replenishing supplies, and participating in audits. Ideal candidates will have relevant experience and qualifications for safe cleaning practices.
The following are the core responsibilities of the cleaner.
To maintain cleaning standards using the recognised quality control procedures as detailed within the National standards of healthcare cleanliness 2021
For auditing purposes, to maintain robust cleaning records to detail activity
To follow the cleaning schedule as promulgated in the Cleaning standards and schedule policy
To ensure that the correct cleaning methods are observed
To use cleaning equipment in a safe and effective manner, adhering to manufacturers instructions
To replenish all consumable items (hand towels, toilet roll etc.) as required
To remove general waste in accordance with the Waste Management Policy and in consideration of the organisations Environmental and Sustainability Policy
Always adhere to the colour coding system for cleaning equipment, seeking appropriate guidance if required
Ensure all cleaning materials are stored in a safe and secure manner, adhering to COSHH, HASAW and other legislative acts and guidance
To undertake legionella flushing of systems within the organisation
To maintain communication and report any faulty equipment or defects to the Operational Manager as soon as practically possible
Participate in cleanliness audits and follow audit action plans to rectify any identified areas for improvement.
To ensure that the standard of cleanliness within the organisation isimplemented and maintained ensuring a cleanenvironment for patient care in accordance with the NationalStandards for Healthcare Cleanliness 2021. Detailedinformation relating to the expected standards are contained within the CleaningStandards and Schedule Policy.
A schedule of cleaning has been added to each areathroughout the organisation. The Cleaner is to maintain detailed records ofactivity for regular and robust cleaning audits.
To correctly dispose of waste in accordance withthe WasteManagement Policy whilst also considering theorganisations obligations as detailed within the Environmentaland Sustainability Policy.
To maintain good communications with the operationalmanager

Secondary responsibilities
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Cleaner may be requested to:
Partake in general audits as directed by the audit lead
Support new members of staff as required
Support other members of staff as requested
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
