Main duties of the job

As a Cleaner, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness across a range of areas, including offices, communal spaces, and washrooms. Your duties will include dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, emptying bins, and ensuring that all areas are kept hygienic and presentable. You will also be expected to use cleaning products safely and follow health and safety guidelines at all times.

You may be asked to complete additional tasks such as deep cleaning or restocking supplies, depending on the needs of the site. Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for undertaking a range of cleaning duties to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene within clinical and non-clinical areas of the organisation. Duties will include the cleaning of floors, surfaces, sanitary areas, patient rooms, offices, and communal spaces using appropriate equipment and materials, following infection prevention and control guidelines at all times. The role involves safe handling and use of cleaning chemicals in line with COSHH regulations, the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to all relevant health and safety procedures. The post holder will be required to work independently and as part of a wider team, ensuring tasks are completed to agreed schedules and standards. Reporting maintenance issues, participating in routine deep cleans, and supporting the wider facilities team during periods of high demand will also form part of the role. Flexibility to work different shifts, including weekends and bank holidays where necessary, may be required.

Qualifications

• - NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Cleaning and Support Services or an equivalent recognised cleaning qualification.
• - Additional training certificates related to health and safety, infection control, or facilities management.

Other Requirements

• - Physically able to carry out the full range of cleaning duties, including lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
• - Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends if required to meet service needs.

Experience

• - Proven experience of cleaning duties in a professional setting (e.g. healthcare environment, offices, schools).
• - Experience of working independently with minimal supervision.

• - Previous experience working in a healthcare setting (e.g. GP surgery, hospital, care home) with knowledge of infection prevention practices.
• - Experience in deep cleaning and terminal cleaning procedures.
