Overview

We have an exciting opportunity at a special school in Pontefract that caters for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The role is for an Experienced classroom support assistant in a secondary special school. It can be Full-time or part-time, or term time only with opportunities of becoming permanent.

The school supports students who have Severe complex or profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and may have additional needs including Autism, sensory impairment, challenging behaviour, as well as medical and physical difficulties. Responsibilities

• Provide classroom support to students with SEN in a secondary special school setting.
• Assist lead teachers with planned activities and on-the-ground support to ensure inclusive learning.
• Support students with PMLD, autism, sensory impairment, challenging behaviour, and medical/physical needs as required.
• Assist with personal care and feeding where applicable and within school policy.
• Adhere to safety and manual handling guidelines; experience with or training in Team Teach is advantageous.
• Engage in on-the-job training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications and experience

• At least 6 months UK experience working in a special school or a similar setting.
• GCSE passes, GNVQ Level 2 or higher in Health and Social Care.
• Experience supporting students with PMLD, severe complex needs, Autism, sensory impairment, challenging behaviour, medical and physical difficulties.
• Manual Handling and/or Team Teach training (advantageous if you have CPD in these areas).
• Child and Adult Workforce DBS subscribed to the annual service or willing to apply.
