Academics, acting as an agency, are recruiting an enthusiastic and caring Class Teaching Assistant for a full-time, temp to perm role in a specialist SEN school in Sheffield.

Position: Class Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Contract: Full-time, temp to perm
School: Specialist SEN school supporting pupils aged 11-19 with complex learning and communication needs
Pay: £88.94 - £100 per day (dependent upon experience, training, qualifications & client rate available, inclusive of holiday pay)

About the Role

As a Class Teaching Assistant, you will play an essential role in supporting pupils with autism, sensory needs, and complex learning difficulties within a classroom setting. You'll work under the guidance of the class teacher to help deliver engaging, structured lessons and provide targeted support to ensure every child can access the curriculum and make progress.

This role would suit someone with experience in special education or those looking to develop their skills within a supportive SEN environment in Sheffield.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the class teacher in delivering lessons tailored to pupils with SEN.
• Assist pupils with communication, sensory regulation, and engagement in learning.
• Provide emotional and practical support to help pupils develop independence.
• Work with individual students and small groups as required.
• Assist with personal care routines when necessary.
• Maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment.
• Follow individual education and behaviour support plans.

Candidate Requirements

Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable).
Experience working with children or young people with SEN.
Understanding of autism, sensory processing, and complex communication needs.
A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply).
