Job summary

Mortimer Primary School, South Shields, NE34 0RW, invites applications for a Class Teacher – Year 5 (MPS/UPS) to cover maternity leave from 16 November 2026 until July 2027 or until the post holder returns.

The successful candidate will be a QTS teacher with the ability to lead a Year 5 class, create stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environments and work well in a team to raise standards of education for all learners.

Qualifications

Maternity Cover

We seek to appoint a fantastic teacher (QTS) to work within our successful school from 16 November 2026.

The role is a maternity cover until July 2027 or until the post holder returns.

The role will provide class room leadership in a year 5 class. The successful applicant will be an effective classroom practitioner who is committed to raising the standards of education for the children in their care.

We are seeking to appoint a teacher who:

• have a thorough knowledge of the primary curriculum so as to deliver meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences
• can work well within the job share to provide the best for the class
• have the ability to provide high standards of care and education
• are able to create stimulating learning environments, both indoor and outdoor
• show commitment to ensuring equality of opportunity for all learners
• work with staff and support leadership within the school vision
