Job description

Job Title: Class 2 Night Trunk Driver

Location: Watford, WD24 7RY

Salary: Up to A£35,000 per year

Job Type: Full time, Permanent. 40 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday, 10pm - 7am with a 60-minute break.

Main purpose of the role:

Delivery of ambient, chilled and frozen products safely and efficiently to a central distribution point at designated location within set timeframe, ensuring proper handling and delivery of products with a high standard of customer care.

Key job responsibilities:

1. Driving a 7.5t - 18t vehicle on a pre-determined drop route, typically delivering 50-60 customers orders to be cross docked at the hub.
2. Load ambient chilled and frozen products onto vehicle according to company's specifications.
3. Ensure that the correct goods are delivered to the cross-dock location, completing the relevant paperwork.
4. Ensure that the goods are actively transferred to the respective vehicles at the cross dock location supporting the driver colleagues on site.
5. To drive and park in a manner that is safe and legal. The driver is responsible for any fines for road traffic offences, parking, bus lanes etc.
6. Keeps company vehicle clean and ensure it is well maintained, has fuel, oil and is ready to drive.
7. Communicates with cross dock hub colleagues by phone to update them of time of deliveries if there have been issues or changes to their estimated time of arrival.
8. Follows pre-planned route accurately without deviation from set course.
9. Maintains communication with management to be informed of any change of delivery, route or schedule.
10. Properly uses and maintains delivery equipment, including handheld PDA.
11. Ensure goods are delivered in good condition.
12. Ensure vehicle is safe to drive and is clean inside and out, arranging with Supply Chain and Logistics Manager should vehicle change be required.
13. Report any vehicle defect to the Supply Chain and Logistics Manager.
14. Informs management of any obstructions to making safe, efficient deliveries.

What do you need?

1. Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 points)
2. No driving disqualifications within the last three years
3. Class 2 Licence to drive 7.5t - 18t vehicle
4. Min of 2 years commercial driving experience (will be checked via references)
5. Must be 21 years of age or older to comply with our insurance requirements
6. May have to lift heavy products and be capable of climbing in and out of the company vehicles
7. Good communication skills
8. Excellent customer service skills
9. Excellent attention to detail
10. Ability to drive long distances and sit for long periods of time
11. Ability to work under pressure
12. Courteous
