Job summary

Gregory Distribution Ltd is seeking a Class 1 Driver for an Avonmouth-based role on a 4on 4off days schedule. You will deliver goods to retail stores using curtain side, tail lift and box trailers, while keeping loads secure and compliant.

You will perform daily vehicle checks, maintain clear communication with the transport office, and represent the company with excellent customer service at every delivery point. A UK Class 1 CE licence and DCPC card are essential.

Qualifications

• UK Class 1 CE Licence required.
• Current DCPC Card and Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
• Minimum 6 months HGV driving experience.
• Experience delivering to retail/commercial sites preferred.
• Strong customer service and clear communication.
• Ability to work to tight schedules with safety focus.
• Team-oriented with ability to work independently.
• Good geography and route planning awareness.

Responsibilities

• Deliver goods to retail stores on a dedicated contract using curtain side, tail lift and box trailers.
• Complete 1–3 delivery drops per shift per schedule.
• Secure loads with straps, nets, and restraints.
• Operate electric-assisted pallet trucks and manual handling for cage deliveries.
• Manage trailer movements and return trailers after each shift.
• Perform daily vehicle safety checks with company phone.
• Maintain updates with transport office and adapt to changes.
• Represent the company professionally at delivery points with strong customer service.
• Participate in ongoing training and regulatory updates.

About The Role

As a Class 1 Driver, you will:

• Deliver goods to retail stores on a dedicated contract using curtain side, tail lift, and box trailers, while returning store waste to the depot.
• Complete an average of 1 to 3 delivery drops per shift in line with schedule and route planning.
• Ensure all loads are safely and securely restrained using straps, nets, and appropriate securing equipment to prevent movement or damage during transit.
• Safely operate electric-assisted pallet trucks and carry out manual handling for cage-based deliveries when required, ensuring efficient and safe unloading at customer sites.
• Manage trailer movements, including the collection and return of trailers for servicing at the end of each shift.
• Perform comprehensive daily vehicle safety checks using your company phone to maintain top-notch vehicle safety and reliability.
• Maintain regular communication with the transport office to provide updates on delivery progress and respond to any changes or issues in real time.
• Represent the company professionally at every delivery point, ensuring excellent customer service and building strong relationships with store teams.
• Participate in ongoing training and development, including refresher courses and updates on industry regulations, to keep your skills sharp and compliant.

Essential Skills And Qualifications

• Must hold a UK Class 1 CE Licence.
• Current DCPC Card and Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
• A minimum of 6 months' HGV driving experience.
• Previous experience delivering to retail or commercial sites (preferred but not essential).
• A strong focus on customer service, with the ability to communicate clearly and courteously.
• The ability to work to tight schedules while maintaining high safety standards.
• A positive, team-oriented attitude and the ability to work independently when required.
• Good geographical knowledge and route planning awareness.

• Competitive Salary: £19.00 per hour, equating to £35,449 per annum, based on an average of 35.88 hours per week. PLUS for all shifts starting between 12:00hrs - 02:00hrs, you will receive an additional £17.50 per shift.
