An oil major/trading firm in Glasgow is seeking a Marine Claims Executive to join their commercial operations team. The role involves assisting in handling claims, performing laytime calculations, and ensuring clear communication with customers. The ideal candidate should have a diploma in Maritime Studies, be proactive, and possess attention to detail. Previous experience in claims handling is advantageous.

Job description

Are you an experienced Marine Claims Executive or post fixture officer within the oil tanker space and looking to work for an oil major/trading firm?

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a growing business and work in the commercial operations team.

You will be an integral part of the operations support team in the oil tanker department working closely with your colleagues to provide claims handling and administrative support.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist tanker operations team in handling demurrage and other claims arising from shipments
  • Carry out laytime calculations to determine demurrage exposure and apprise customers of potential claims
  • Ensure customers receive prompt and timely communication on claim submission, status and time-bar alerts
  • Discuss and follow up keenly on all outstanding claims until final settlement
  • Populate database with shipment information, claim records and status updates
  • Generate invoices and follow up on payments
  • Learn and understand various shipping documents, charter party terms and conditions and their interpretations so as to upskill and better facilitate claim negotiations
  • Assist with department documentation, general administrative duties and other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by department head from time to time

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Maritime Studies or equivalent
  • Prior experience in claims handling or commercial operations will be a plus
  • Pleasant, proactive, positive and willing to learn attitude with good written and spoken English
  • Ideal candidate will be self-driven and meticulous and with good attention to detail
