How you will create an impact

Reports to the Marine Claims Manager, with responsibility for managing all aspects of the claims adjudication process, providing management and clients with an efficient and effective claims service.

Responsibilities

  • Acting within an agreed claims handling authority and upholding the departmental objectives.
  • Receiving and acting upon first notifications and updates, determining coverage.
  • Taking a fair and proportionate approach towards policyholders.
  • Agreeing valid claims.
  • Establishing and maintaining reserves.
  • Carrying out negotiations with brokers, face to face when required.
  • Handling claims electronically predominately via market systems and DocoSoft.
  • Managing third party experts.
  • Representing the syndicate at market meetings.
  • Attending client meetings.
  • Maintaining compliance with internal and external risk controls and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervising and monitoring organizations where the syndicate has delegated claims authority.
  • Notifying and reporting claims notifications to underwriters and senior management where necessary.
  • Handling litigated cases in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Completing statics, SDRs, diary and other ancillary tasks to a high standard.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Handling major claim through discovery process and dispute resolution.
  • Managing multiple claims in their class of business and in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience in the relevant classes.
  • Qualified or studying towards ACII.
  • Foreign languages would be an advantage.

The person will be enthusiastic, possess sound technical knowledge of the relevant classes of business and be able to demonstrate strong influencing, negotiating and communication skills.

  • Detailed understanding of the London Market regulatory environment and implications for Talbot and our clients.
  • Full working knowledge of market systems and DocoSoft.
  • Litigation, mediation, dispute resolution and deposition skills.
  • Use of internal underwriting and claims systems and relevant software packages.
  • Relationship building internally and externally.
  • Ability to identify trends and understand how these may affect Claims and the Syndicate more broadly.
