Job description

Responsibilities
  • To adjust, settle and manage claims arising on policies underwritten by W/R/B Underwriting (WRBU) in respect of the Berkley Professional Liability (BPro) affiliate underwriting and, in the event of conflict and/or as required on occasion, Berkley Alliance Managers (BAM) affiliate underwriting. Such activity to be in accordance with agreed authority limits and in line with WRBU’s Claims Management Policies and Procedures and associated guidance and procedures (including the Claims Philosophy and Claims Reserving Protocol).
  • To manage the claims exposure of the Company, ensuring claims are adjusted proactively and efficiently in conjunction with the prevailing legal and regulatory environment.
  • To protect the Company's financial interests by ensuring the validity of claims payments and adequate reserving.
  • To provide our customers with a prompt and efficient service, ensuring compliance with the Treating Customers Fairly principles.
  • To communicate to all stakeholders, as appropriate, claims developments, trends and material losses.
  • To ensure Claims Management interacts effectively with all relevant Syndicate and affiliate stakeholders.
  • To ensure claims management activities are in compliance with claims philosophy, minimum standards and individual claims authority limits.
  • To ensure that claims presented, either by way of paper or electronic submission, are handled promptly, efficiently and within agreed service levels from notification to conclusion.
  • To appoint and manage service providers, including developing strategies for claim resolution.
  • To liaise with brokers, co-insurers and customers on claims related issues.
  • To ensure that claims records held on internal systems are accurate and up to date. In addition, to be responsible for managing own workflow via ECF2 and other claims delivery platforms.
  • Work in conjunction with Senior Management from both WRBU and BPro and representatives of the BPro Underwriting teams to ensure the smooth operation of business and effective communication is in place through all areas of the business.
  • To undertake and assist with Claims Management duties including but not limited to, Open Claims Reviews, Reserving analysis, Reinsurance analysis and Reinsurer interactions and other projects where involvement may be reasonably requested.
  • To participate in and undertake applicable professional, technical and career development training (delivered internally and externally).
  • To undertake any other duties of a similar nature that WRBU or BPro reasonably requests to be performed that are within the expertise and skills of the jobholder. These may be subject to periodic review and any updates and changes to be introduced after consultation with the person concerned.
  • To liaise with related functions within WRB Underwriting in the furtherance of the delivery of effective claims management – Underwriting, Actuarial, Risk Management, Finance and Compliance.
  • To attend WRB Underwriting internal meetings / Committees as required.
