Claims Actuary

The opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity to join QBE as a Claims Actuary. In this dynamic role, you will delve into the intricate world of volatile claims and reserve volatility within the long tail claims population of EO Complex Claims. You will be the key player in providing trend analysis and actionable insights to both the Reserving Actuaries and the EO Complex claims team, acting as a trusted intermediary and "translator" between these vital teams. Your expertise in data analytics will be crucial in the EO Complex claims team, where you will not only identify and remedy data anomalies, but also provide valuable context that impacts the downstream processes for Reserving Actuaries. Your new role:

  • Leading on the analysis of volatile claims on a monthly basis and delivering the volatility proforma submission twice a year. Communication with all key internal stakeholders as required.
  • Understanding trends and drivers of movements and communicating with Reserving Actuaries to help inform their assumptions.
  • Meeting with claims leaders and adjusters to understand and interpret claims volatility and liaising with Underwriting leads regarding the information.
  • Identifying data improvement opportunities and implementing solutions and change in conjunction with Operations, Change and Transformation teams
  • Understanding and influencing monthly movements in incurred position and communicating with internal stakeholders.
  • Deliver claims insights for Claims Managers ( e.g.long term trends in development, insured level performance metrics etc).
  • Assist the EO Complex claim team and Reserving Actuaries with learning and development to support continue collaboration and technical excellence.
  • In depth analysis and reviews of - and presentations to internal stakeholders on - trends specific to classes of business, emerging risks and market-wide exposure events.
  • Supporting the EO Complex claims team with automation, AI, GenAI, regular reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identifying and lead on opportunities for further analyses that drives efficiencies and action.

About you

  • Effective communication and ability to collaborate across various teams with different priorities and skillsets
  • Strong abilities in the use and interpretation of numerical data
  • Ability to work independently, organise own work and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional skills in Excel and other analytical and data tools, for example Power BI and SQL
  • Ability to question established processes and suggest improvements
  • Understanding of risks and uncertainty, the actuarial profession and/or London Market claims
